Hammering rains cause flooding in Ecuador. Ecuadorians are not new to the floods that frequently engulf their areas. However, the recent rains caused flooding. This led to the death of 30 Ecuadorians and the loss of thousands of crops. In addition, 4, 700 inhabitants were forced to evacuate from their vicinity according to Ecuadorian Officials.

The heavy downpour was the catalyst of the landslides and flooding. A report from Ecuadorian Officials was released the day after the intense rains suggesting that approximately 84,000 people were affected and 34,000 hectares of crops obliterated.

Thousands of affected farmers claimed that this calamity is the worst that they have ever seen. Among the thousands affected, farmers are the ones who have incurred the biggest losses because of the loss of their crops – their source of livelihood.

Subsequent reports say that the provinces of Guayas and Los Rios are the most devastated areas. The Ecuadorian Government even declared these two places under a state of calamity. Locals endured the most demoralizing calamity in over 14 years. The 30 people who were killed during the course of the
tragic misfortune were very unlucky. Those who survived must be thankful that they did not have the same destiny like the 30 people.
